AAS Policy Positions
The American Astronomical Society articulates its opinion in 3 different ways, council resolutions, policy statements, and sign-on letters. Follow the links below to learn more about each of these types of statements and to see lists of past resolutions, statements, and sign-on letters.
The Council is the governing body of the AAS and is responsible for the management, direction, and control of the affairs and the property of the AAS. From time to time, the Council issues resolutions articulating the official policy positions of the AAS.

This page links to a list of statements that the AAS has made. These statements are typically in response to a policy or proposed policy and are written by the AAS CAPP in consultation with AAS Policy staff.
This page links to letters that the AAS has joined. Letters are typically in response to a policy or proposed policy, are written by a professional society or coalition of societies, and are sent to the relevant policymakers.
